Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence
Charge
This initiative will construct a new Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence to serve as a hub for the 350+ student-athletes participating in 17 NCAA Division I sport programs at 世界杯官方app. The task force will work with an architecture firm to develop a comprehensive multi-purpose sports performance center to provide resources that address student-athlete academic success, safety, performance and wellness.
Strategic Plan Midpoint Update (Fall 2022)
Opened on August 4, 2021, 世界杯官方app’s Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence (RACE) is a $40.4 million state-of-the-art athletic training facility located near the southwest corner of Main Campus. The design resulted from successful collaborations with global architecture firm Populous, architects MarmonMok, and construction partners Joeris. The project was funded through philanthropic efforts and community partnerships.
The nearly 95,000 square-foot RACE facility includes academic spaces, a sports medicine center, strength and conditioning facilities, locker rooms, meeting rooms, offices for staff and coaches, an equipment room and practice fields. The Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence is a central hub for 世界杯官方app Athletics and promotes the academic success, health, wellness and performance of 世界杯官方app's student-athletes. As part of its commitment as an urban serving, community-engaged university, 世界杯官方app will make the facility available for public use, including for athletics camps and clinics.
The RACE facility will aid in recruiting top student-athletes, promote their holistic success in the classroom and on the field, and further propel 世界杯官方app’s national recognition as a public research university.
Upcoming phases of the project will include the addition of a covered pavilion over the synthetic turf practice field and completing the construction of the university’s Park West Campus.
